Simon Kennedy: Personality vs. Policy
In our local community, Simon Kennedy is often described as a decent, approachable person. He lives in our neighborhoods, speaks at our local events, and is quick to offer a handshake.
But in Canberra, personality doesn’t pass laws. Votes do.
As a Shadow Assistant Minister and a member of the Liberal Party, Simon Kennedy is bound by party discipline. Regardless of his personal comments in the Sutherland Shire, he is required to vote in lockstep with the Coalition’s national platform. When he enters the Chamber, his vote belongs to the Liberal Party—not to the people of Cook.
How does he actually vote?
According to the TheyVoteForYou.org.au website Simon Kennedy voted consistently:
Against encouraging Australian-based industry
Against increasing access to subsidised childcare
Against reducing tax on lowest income bracket
Against making TAFE education fee-free
Against transition plan for coal workers
Against protecting threatened forest and bushland habitats
Against increasing investment in renewable energy
Against limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees
Against net zero emissions by 2050
Against federal government action on animal & plant extinctions
Against vehicle efficiency standards
Does this align with your values?
Simon Kennedy holds a senior role on the Liberal frontbench. His primary job is to defend his party's national platform, even when it directly conflicts with the interests of our community in the Shire.
Is a "nice guy" enough if his vote goes toward policies that don't match our local priorities?
Do you want a representative who takes orders from a party leader in Canberra, or one who takes orders from you?
We believe the people of Cook deserve a representative who is free to vote for the community, every single time.
